Have Tools, Will Travel
In partnership with camps and organizations in our community, Compass Project has brought boat building projects to kids from Kennebunk to Rockland.
Interested in having Compass Project staff lead a boatbuilding program at your summer camp, school, or event? Programs can be tailored to your needs, but a typical week-long program would cater to a group of 10 students, and you would keep the rowboat, canoe, or kayaks at the end of the week.
Interested in building a boat with your family? Contact us for current opportunities to participate in an organized boat building event or to arrange for a customized program.
Past Summer Programs Include
Aucocisco School: students in the summer program built a Bevin’s Skiff under a pop-up tent outside of their school.
Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons: campers have built several Peace Canoes to paddle on Great Pond.
Camp Frosty: a summer program offered collaboratively with SailMaine. Working at the Compass Project workshop, Students built a total of 6 Cape Cod Frosties, which were added to SailMaine’s fleet of boats for beginner sailers.
Camp Runoia: campers in the leadership program built a Peace Canoe, and each camper carved their own Canoe Paddle.
Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (KBIA): students have built an Optimist Pram, Bevin’s Skiff, and dozens of toy sailboats. Campers will build an Echo Bay Dory Skiff and more toy boats this summer.
