On Tuesday, June 5 at 12:00am students from Biddeford High School and the Biddeford Middle School Alternative Education Program will launch three wooden rowboats built during the school year in collaboration with the Compass Project. The boat launch celebration will be held at Rotary Park (550 Main St. Biddeford) at the beach. This event is free and the public is welcome to come celebrate the students’ success. The event will be held rain or shine.
We’ll be flippin’ dogs and burgers as well for lunch!
Students have attended the Compass Project boatbuilding program weekly with their classmates as part of their school day. They worked together and built three high-quality rowboats and multiple sets of oars from start to finish. This year’s boat design includes the Compass Skiffs, a 10′ highly-portable rowboat rated for holding up to a 6HP outboard. We will also have a John Dory, an 18’ 1” lapstrake construction with marine grade plywood that is a lightweight, seaworthy boat great for rowing in a variety of conditions. The John Dory is currently for sale: http://compassproject.org/
